Five Frugal Things I have Done this Week

So this past week, I decided that I would blog about what I did this week to save money!

1. We took some leftover corn that was starting to go bad and chopped it and placed it in the freezer to use for soups and chicken dumplings.

2. We made homemade homemade bread - 2 loaves with all things we had in the pantry.

3. I used my homemade cleaners this morning. I have a homemade vinegar cleaner that cleans basically anything.

4. We dried our clothes on the drying rack to save money.

5. I cut my husbands hair to save money using clippers we had at home.

Plus we bought a chest freezer on sale for 169 something at walmart so we could stockpile more foods in the freezer.

That is my list for today of what I have done!

Frugal Happenings

Hello All!

I hope everyone is alright, so I wanted to update about Frugal Happenings in my home

1. Started growing herbs in the house, yep herbs. I thought it was a good place to start since I am unsure how plants grow down here. We are growing cilantro and basil currently.

2. Ate most of our meals at home, only one meal this week was eaten outside the home. We ate leftovers, and I cooked. I also made homemade marinara and butter garlic sauce all from items in my home, so pizza night seemed a bit fancier

3. Used up fruits in the fridge that were going bad, I had bought some jello peppermint no bake around Christmas and placed strawberries in the batter. My significant other totally thought it tasted like a strawberry york patty.

4. Found some new shoes for my significant other and I, we paid less than 15.00 for both pairs on clearance. I am actually wearing mine currently, they fit well and match almost anything. Also my SO needed a new pair for his workouts.

5. Used Swagbucks, and bing search to earn extra money.

6. Used my homemade cleaners to save money

7. Have been eating meat out of the freezer to save on food budget

8.  Have cut down on my running around and errands to save money

The Price of Eggs

So I was at the local walmart in my area and mind you I keep record of the prices of items in order to find the best deals and I noticed that eggs are up to 4.23 an 18 pack! That is ridiculous, I have never seen eggs that price before! So I did a little research, according to cbs news they have raised prices due to new laws that regulate the treatment of chickens, and avian influenza. So there you have it, our prices will continue to go up until the bird flu has finished. So I would suggest you break out the flour or the cans of biscuits, a half a pound of sausage and make some biscuits and gravy or oatmeal to cut down on egg prices. We have started making our own biscuits and gravy and for us 10 biscuits, 3 cups of gravy, and a half a pound of sausage feeds us for around 2-3 meals, maybe 4 if we can stretch it out. Plus a pound of sausage is around $ 2.19 here, we have all the ingredients to make biscuits on hand (flour, shortening, baking powder, salt, and milk), and gravy is easy (packets are around 50 cents or you can make your own) so right around $3.50 after taxes for close to 8 meals of biscuits and gravy. We usually have leftover biscuits we use for breakfast sandwiches or buttered and eat like that.

Cutting Mats

I got accepted to review some cutting mats for Perennial Essentials, they sent me 4 colored mats each 12 x 8 and set up for different uses. The red is for meats, one for seafood, one for garlic, and another for fruits and veggies. Talk about super cute, I used these and was able to cut three chicken breasts up on them as pictured above. Cute Little Soaps

This week in the mail, I ordered some soaps from Amazon, Alaffia Fair Trade Shea Butter Triple Milled Soap, Variety 6 Pack. These are made with shea butter and are wheat, soy, and gluten free and very cute. I really liked how they foamed and the way they smelled. I absolutely loved the cute packaging they came in.
